Obituary of Peggy Elinor Garrett
We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of our sister, Peggy Elinor Garrett, in Lynnwood, Washington on November 17, 2022.
Peggy will be remembered for her good humor, warm heart and generosity of spirit, and especially missed during the holidays. No Thanksgiving gathering went by without her delicious homemade pies, and Christmas was not complete until she had carefully selected and made her Toys for Tots donations. In keeping with her festive style, her Christmas ornament collection was unparalleled.
Family was important to Peggy. She was a private person but was sure to show up for family gatherings, where she could always be counted on for a good conversation. Well-informed about current events, she had strong opinions but also was interested in others’ views, and took a cheerful upbeat approach to her interactions with others. She was good company and everything was more fun when she was around.
Independent in spirit, Peggy lived a rich inner life. From a young age music was her constant companion, from classic rock-and-roll to world music and everything in between. Music and lyrics brought joy and variety to her life, and she was a knowledgeable and discerning listener with excellent taste. Peggy also loved classic movies and was always willing to share from her extensive collection, certain that those who didn’t like classic films just hadn’t seen the best ones yet. She was also the guardian of our family recipes and loved to reminisce about favorite dishes enjoyed over the years.
Peggy had a tender heart. She lived a life of quiet faith, secure in knowing there was some greater plan at work. She delighted in anonymous acts of kindness and donated to charity, hoping to alleviate the suffering of others. She accepted others as they were. Peggy was compassionate toward those less fortunate, forgiving to those who slighted her, and an excellent judge of character. She worked for many years at a pharmacy where she enjoyed people-watching and got a lot of satisfaction from helping those who were struggling, adding a little kindness to their day. No matter what challenges Peggy faced in life, she always remained optimistic with hope for the future.
Peggy was a graduate of Queen Anne High School in Seattle and attended Brigham Young University-Idaho. She is survived by siblings Kate Williams, Steven Garrett, Susan Garrett and Laurie Garrett and predeceased by her parents, Paul Maurice and Lola Beth Garrett, and sister Mary Lou Cox.
She will be greatly missed.
